To adult or not to adult

So, I finished my degree (finally) and now the world expects me to get a job. Well, I feel differently about that idea. I never took a gap year as at the time it was probably not going to work (I don’t know of anybody successfully getting into Oxford for physics having taken a gap year). Then obviously physics went down the drain and after a summer of escapism (lots of holidays), I stumbled across a very rare university space in clearing for music at Bristol and then the rest is history.

Fast forward 2 years and I’m beginning my final year of University. I was still toying with the idea of doing a Masters, probably in Composition for Film and TV but also… I’ve been at uni for a looooong time and I’m not even doing a medical degree. So then I started job hunting. I looked at many a grad scheme but none that I found instantly grabbed me. What I really want to do is to do something within the music industry. That’s really where my heart lies and after the 180 with degree subjects, I feel like I owe it to myself to really try and make a career that I know I will absolutely love.

Throughout my job searching, I was checking out any music job which I thought might appeal to me and found that any job advertised has a start date often within a month. Not only that but if I found a job on a Wednesday, by Friday the posting had been taken down. These were great things to learn last year whilst I wasn’t in desperate need of a job. There was also a great influx of jobs around Christmas time which got me thinking… Why not just do some more escapism, have a mini gap year, put off job hunting some more, and generally just ignore adulting for a wee bit longer and galavant around the world for a bit instead?! Which brings me here 🙂
